Why Alvaro Morata celebrated Spain goal by lifting golden star into the air

Alvaro Morata put together a touching celebration during Spain’s win over Sweden on Sunday.

Morata was on target for La Roja on Sunday evening as they secure qualification to the 2022 World Cup.

It looked for some time as though Spain may have to go through the playoffs to reach international football’s biggest competition, but they got the job done the easy way.

Wins over Greece and Sweden in their final two games saw Spain qualify automatically, and Morata was to thank for the second, of those wins, chipping home from close range.

After the goal, the on loan Juventus striker pulled out a star as part of his celebration and raised it aloft.

It left many wondering what it was all about, but as detailed by Diario AS, Morata did it as a tribute to a young boy.

A young child from Malaga, Miguel Angel, is currently suffering from a serious illness and recent visited the Spain squad at their Las Rozas base.

Morata’s celebration was a message of strength to the young boy, and here’s to hoping it made his night. A lovely touch.
