Carlo Ancelotti makes blunt admission over Eden Hazard amid Real Madrid struggles

Carlo Ancelotti is determined to get the best out of Eden Hazard, but he admits he currently prefers Rodrygo.

Hazard‘s spell at the Santiago Bernabeu has been pretty disastrous thus far, the Belgian failing to impress since his more than €100million move from Chelsea in 2019.

Injuries have plagued his time in the Spanish capital so far, but the bottom line is that he has failed to deliver up until now.

There is still hope, and Ancelotti holds plenty, but the Italian boss admits Hazard is currently behind Rodrygo, who has impressed of late.

Asked about where Hazard fits in, Ancelotti said in his press conference: “He can play in a 4-3-3 on the left or en 4-4-2 up top or behind the striker. He is ready to play, but the problem is a coach that prefers another player.”

Ancelotti was also asked about why Hazard is yet to reach superstar status at Real Madrid given his large fee.

“He doesn’t have this status because he has had a lot of injuries and little by little he will get better,” the Real Madrid boss replied.

“I am sure that this season we are going to see a better version and he will play more than what he is doing now.

“Hazard has it all, quality, motivation…he has to put up with it, that what happens at times, is that the coach prefers other players.”

Hazard recently suffered another injury setback but returned to the bench for El Clásico.

The Belgian did not make it off the bench, but he will be back in contention for this evening’s clash with Osasuna and this weekend’s date with Elche.
