Jurgen Klopp issues verdict on Atletico Madrid’s style of play after Liverpool win

Jurgen Klopp has once again spoken about Atletico Madrid’s style of play following his side’s win over Diego Simeone’s men on Tuesday night.

It was a dramatic evening at the Wanda Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid and Liverpool did battle in the first of two group stage clashes.

Liverpool raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from James Milner and Naby Keita, but a double from Antoine Griezmann saw Atleti level things up.

Griezmann was then sent off, and things began to go downhill for Simeone’s men.

Liverpool won and scored a penalty through Mo Salah, and Atletico saw a penalty decision in their favour overturned by VAR, condemning them to a 3-2 defeat.

The last time the two met, it finished 3-2 in Atleti’s favour as the La Liga side progressed through in a knockout clash, and after that game, Klopp was particularly critical of the style of play Simeone employs.

And after this game, the Liverpool boss was again asked for his thoughts on that way of playing.

He said: “It’s a style of play. There are things I like and others

“But I really respect what they do. I couldn’t do it. I’m not the same person as Diego.

“I couldn’t play that way, but he has had 10 years here with incredible successes.

“He doesn’t play the football that I like, but they like it and I respect it a lot.”
