Barcelona and Real Madrid have the best paid players in global sport, according to data and analysis released this week.
The 10th edition of the Global Sports Salaries study by sportingintelligence.com placed the two Spanish giants at the top of the list.
Barcelona’s average wage bill has actually decreased in the past 12 months, with an average player paid at $12.8m as opposed to $13.7m last year, with star Lionel Messi paid a whopping $65m.
Their El Clasico rivals Madrid are second on the list with an average of $11.6m with the next football club on the list being Italian champions Juventus, who are ninth on an average of $10.54m.
The only other two football teams in the top 20 are Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, who are 12th and 13th respectively.
Teams from the NBA fill the remaining seven spots in the top 10 and take 15 of the top 20 place, the report details.
