Neymar’s father tight-lipped on Paris Saint-Germain future

The father of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has refused to shed any light upon a possible return for his son to Barcelona.

Neymar moved to the France capital in a world record €222m deal back in the summer of 2017 but there have been continual reports linking him with a return to Spanish football.

“What Neymar needs is to be effective on the pitch,” Neymar snr told Cadena Cope.

“Regarding the future we know nothing. Neymar is under contract at PSG, he is well, he is happy and we hope he can achieve this season's aims.”

It follows on from the reports that the Brazilian international is suing the Catalan giants for €3.5m in alleged unpaid wages.

“This lawsuit isn't new,” added Neymar snr.

“It's a figure relating to the contract settlement when he left, of the last month. It's something that was done in the past but with a certainty that there will be an agreement between Neymar and Barcelona.”

The star has accused Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu of acting with ‘absolute bad faith’ and having applied ‘reprisals’ against him for having signed for the French champions.

The Brazilian has already been fighting his former club in the court as he believes he is owed a whopping €43.6m from the Blaugrana alongside 10% of the fee in interest, roughly standing at €4m.

The €43.6m stems from a renewal bonus which was included in the contract, which the former Santos player alleges he has not yet received.

Separately, the Blaugrana are claiming they are owed money by their former player from the first part of the renewal bonus included in that contract, alongside €8.5m in damages and interest.
