Barcelona edge out Inter Milan in final Champions League group stage clash

Barcelona ended their Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 away at Inter Milan.

Goals from Carles Perez and substitute Ansu fati secured all three points for Ernesto Valverde's side in San Siro.

Barcelona opted to rest Lionel Messi, Marc Ter Stegen, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets for the trip to Italy, with Antonio Conte's team in need of a win.

The hosts side enjoyed the better chances, with stand in goalkeeper Neto saving from Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

Despite struggling to make inroads against an organised Inter defence, Barcelona found a breakthrough via Perez on 28 minutes.

Antoine Griezmann's low cross fell kindly for the Spanish U21 international, and he netted an instinctive finish from close range.

Inter looked to hit back, with Lukaku firing home a superb equaliser on the stroke of half time.

The hosts created chances to snatch an essential win after the break, with former Valencia keeper Neto in inspired form to deny Lukaku and Borja Valero.

However, with Inter's fate sealed by Borussia Dortmund win at home to Slavia Prague, the home side were unable to muster a response.

Barcelona secured a win and Inter's Champions League elimination with four minutes to go, as substitute Ansu Fati scored a long range effort.

Fellow substitute Luis Suarez found the teenager in space on the edge of the box and he confidently blasted into the bottom corner.
