Timo Werner wanted by Atletico Madrid

RB Leipzig striker and Germany international Timo Werner is the ‘primary objective’ for Atletico Madrid this summer, say Cadena Cope.

The 23-year-old has been in remarkable form this campaign for the highflying Bundesliga side, netting 17 times already to date.

Werner joined the Leipzig side from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016 and has netted 78 times in 132 appearances for the club, and has scored 11 times in 29 international appearances for Germany.

Diego Costa has been sidelined with an injury until February, leaving Atleti short up front and short on goals this season.

The club are at their salary cap and would need to offload players in order to sign anyone, with Santiago Arias and Sime Vrsaljko two players who may be let go.

It is claimed that Costa could be sold to help fund a €60m approach for Werner, while Los Rojiblancos have also been linked to PSG striker Edinson Cavani this January.
