Atletico Madrid are reportedly prepared to rival interest from Milan to land out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The Serbian international’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the current campaign and whilst United have an option to trigger that deal by 12 months, it is likely they will cash-in on the player in January.
Matic has fallen out of favour at United this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, starting just two of a possible 12 Premier League matches to date.
Now aged 31, his lack of mobility has been highlighted but a report in ESPN FC now claims Atleti have identified the deep-lying midfielder as a transfer target.
It is claimed that Los Rojiblancos are seeking an experienced reinforcement in midfield and value the fact that Matic will be able to play in the Champions League this season, having only participated in the Europa League this campaign.
