Nikola Kalinic set for Atletico Madrid return

Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic is in line to return to the club in January, according to reports in Marca.

The Croatian international joined Serie A side on a season-long loan deal at the start of the season, after being made surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital following the arrival of Joao Felix.

However his move to Italy has not worked out, with just one league start for Paulo Fonseca's side, and he could have his deal cut short during the winter transfer market and come back to the Wanda Metropolitano.

The 31-year old had previously enjoyed spells in Italy, with Fiorentina and AC Milan, however Fonseca is not set to look for alternative attacking options in the new year.

Edin Dzeko has remained a consistent source of goals for Roma, with five Serie A goals so far this season, however Fonseca is hopeful of bringing in another forward, with Kalinic, Justin Kluivert and Patrik Schick all struggling for goals.
