Lucas Hernandez has explained how Real Madrid attempted to sign him when he was still a defender at Atletico Madrid.
The France international joined Bayern Munich this summer in an €80m deal having coming up through the youth system at Los Rojiblancos.
The central defender – who was also adept at playing at left-back – was one of the most important players in Diego Simeone’s side, who were desperate to retain him this summer.
“Madrid had already tried to sign me, it's true, but not this summer,” Lucas told France Football.
“But I would not go there, not after having worn the colours of Atletico for such a long time.”
Lucas helped Atleti to win the 2018 Europa League title and had become an integral part of the side over the years, while his younger brother Theo was signed by cross-city rivals Madrid in the summer of 2017.
Theo is now playing in Italy with Milan while Lucas is now a star with Bayern and the French national side, with whom he won the World Cup in 2018.
