Real Madrid and Barcelona interested in Kai Havertz

Real Madrid have reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

Ernesto Valverde's side were linked with a move for the German international over the summer, however they opted against a deal after bringing in Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie De Jong.

The 20-year old has come through the youth ranks at the Bundesliga side, and established himself as a regular in the last two seasons, as a key figure in their midfield.

According to reports in Marca, Barcelona are still interested in a potential deal, but Real Madrid have also registered an interest, as part of their pursuit of the best young players from across Europe.

The main barrier for a move to one of La Liga's big guns appears to be a potential move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich – who  have also scouted Havertz in the past 12 months.

Club director Rudi Voller admitted that Bayern were not the only side interested in their star player, and hinted that it would take a bid in the region of €100M to take him away from the club.
