James Rodriguez withdraws from Colombia squad

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has withdrawn from the Colombia squad for their upcoming games.

The 28-year old play maker was called up by manager Carlos Queiroz for the friendly games against Chile and Algeria next week, however he has opted to remove himself to remain in Spain.

According to reports in Marca, Rodrgiuez contacted Queiroz to request to drop out so he can focus on playing for Real Madrid, after securing a return to the firs team this season.

Rodriguez netted his first club goal in over three years in the weekend win over Granada, with manager Zindedine Zidane praising the former AS Monaco man following his return to favour at the club.

He had seemed certain to leave the club this summer, after returning from a two-year loan at Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, however no move materialised despite strong reported interest from Atletico Madrid and Napoli.

He has now played in seven of Real Madrid's La Liga and Champions League games so far this season.
