Ajax set to offer new contract to Real Madrid target Donny van de Beek

Ajax are set to offer a new contract to midfielder Donny van de Beek – despite continued interest in him from Real Madrid.

The Dutch international was heavily linked with a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu, following the high profile departures of former Ajax teammates Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs De Ligt, to Barcelona and Juventus respectively.

However the Eredivisie club blocked any potential move, as they look to retain players from the impressive 2018-19 run to the Champions League semi final stage.

The new contract does not remove the potential for an exit however, as Dutch football website Voetbal International reports, it involves a wage increase for van de Beek.

His current deal runs until 2022, after signing a long term contract in 2018, and reports are still circulating that Real Madrid will return for him – particularly if they are unable to bring Paul Pogba to the club.
