POST MATCH: Karim Benzema seals vital Real Madrid win at Sevilla CF

Real Madrid picked a crucial 1-0 La Liga win away at Sevilla CF, thanks to Karim Benzema's second half goal.

The result moves Zinedine Zidane's side up to second in the table, behind Athletic Bilbao, with Julen Lopetegui's side dropping down to fifth.

In a first half of very few chances for either side, Real Madrid came closest to breaking the deadlock, with Eden Hazard and Dani Carvajal both denied by Thomas Vaclik.

The visitors look to set the tempo after the breal, but Lopetegui's side were unable to trouble Thibaut Courtois in the visitors goal.

With openings continuing to be at a premium at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, the reliable Benzema popped up with the decisive goal just after the hour mark.

Carvajal's driving run to the byline created space, and the Spanish international dinked a cross into the far post, for Benzema to loop a header over Vaclik.

The hosts did have chances to steal a point late on, with Luuk De Jong heading wide, but in the end Real Madrid had just enough to hold on for the win.
