Mariano Díaz out in the cold at Real Madrid

Real Madrid striker Mariano Díaz determined to compete for his place this season, says Marca.

The 26-year-old has found life back at the Santiago Bernabéu hard going – mustering only three goals in 13 appearances.

This season is proving to be no different with the player yet to play a competitive game for The Whites and finding it difficult to find any minutes on the pitch.

Things were made worse over the summer by the fact that he had to give up the coverted number 7 shirt to star summer signing Eden Hazard.

The player, as this report indicates, can count on the fact he is positive, stubborn and brave – with a clear example coming only last year when he signed for the club – being the only player willing to take on the weight of the number '7' vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus.

The player declared earlier this summer in Marca that this would be his year to shine and is convinced he will get game time as he is ready to fight for his Real Madrid future.

Yet the striker, who came through the youth set up at the club, has a tough task to make the breakthrough with the likes of Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema, Luca Jovic, James Rodríguez, Vinicius and even Gareth Bale back in favour.
