Victor Valdes: I’m sacked if I speak about Neymar at Barcelona

Victor Valdes has joked that he would be sacked by Barcelona if he spoke about a possible return for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

Former Blaugrana shot-stopper Valdes returned to the club this summer to coach their Juvenil A team for the forthcoming campaign.

The two were teammates at the Camp Nou during the Brazilian’s first season at the club – in the 2013-14 campaign, when Barca missed out on all major trophies.

“What can I say about Neymar? I was only with him for a year but it was a highlight for me,” Valdes told reporters.

“That is something that I remember. What am I going to tell you about Neymar? Well, you all know him as a player and he was involved in the Champions League that we won and he was a great player for the team.

“But I do not have to comment on those issues and you will have to ask someone else, because this has put me in an uncompromising position and I could get fired.

“My hope is to continue here at the club!”

The former Spain international made 539 first-team appearances for the Blaugrana before departing in the summer of 2014, months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Valdes has completed all of his relevant youth coaching qualification and had been working as a coach at ED Moratalaz in the fifth tier of Spanish football, following his retirement as a professional.

As a La Masia youth team graduate himself, Valdes won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues in a 12-year career at the Camp Nou between 2002 and 2014.
