Rennes are hopeful of signing central defender Joris Gnagnon from Sevilla this week on a loan deal, the club have confirmed.
Last week, Marca cited a report in L’Equipe that the two clubs are in negotiations over a temporary deal which will not include a purchase option.
“We imagine that he will come, although it is not done yet,” Rennes boss Julien Stephan is cited as saying by Marca.
The France Under-21 international became the most expensive defender in the Andalusian club’s history last summer when he joined from the Ligue 1 club in a €13.5m deal.
However, he started in just four La Liga matches for Los Rojiblancos this campaign, although he did feature on nine occasions across the Copa del Rey and Europa League.
Previous reports have linked Leganes with a loan move for the defender but it now appears that the Gnagnon’s exit from Sevilla this summer could be to Ligue 1.
Sevilla have undergone somewhat of a squad overhaul this summer with 11 new arrivals already at the club and a series of departures, including defenders Gabriel Mercado and Sebastian Corchia.
