Real Madrid suffer James Rodriguez injury blow

Real Madrid have been dealt a fresh injury blow with the news that playmaker James Rodriguez will be out of action for several weeks.

The news was confirmed on Monday that the player had suffered an injury to his soleus muscle in his ankle and is expected to miss several weeks.

A Madrid club statement read: “After the tests carried out today to our player James Rodríguez by the Medical Services of Real Madrid he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the right soleus. Pending evolution.”

He is now ruled out of Madrid’s trip to Villarreal this coming weekend and is also set to miss the international break with Colombia, who are set to play Brazil and Venezuela.

James, who has spent the past two seasons out on loan at Bayern Munich, was substituted off in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid after feeling the discomfort in his ankle.

The former Porto and Monaco star was widely tipped to be leaving Los Blancos this summer with both Atletico Madrid and Napoli strongly linked, but no move materialised.

Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard, Rodrygo Goes and Brahim Diaz are other attacking talents who are currently unavailable for Madrid selection due to injury, while James had stepped in for the suspended Luka Modric.
