New Atletico Madrid defender Felipe Monteiro has hailed ‘the passion of the club’s fans’ weeks after joining the club.
The Brazilian defender is had completed three seasons at FC Porto having signed from Corinthians in the summer of 2016 and has now signed a three-year contract in Madrid.
“The passion of the people is so impressive, I have been here only for a short time, but I can see that,” he has said, as cited by Diario AS.
“We know that Atletico is a club that has a very passionate fanbase and that is important. In addition, there is also a very good group. We have to continue the work and know that we can achieve good things.
“Joao Felix? He has already shown his quality in Portugal. He knew he was not going to be different here, but he is still a kid. He will be a great footballer and we must enjoy him.”
The 29-year-old has subsequently earned international recognition with Brazil and had become one of the mainstays in the defence of Porto.
His defensive partner Eder Militao has already agreed a €50m summer switch to Real Madrid while teammate Hector Herrera has also joined Atleti.
Felipe has been trusted by successive managers Nuno Espirito Santo and Sergio Conceicao and he had become one of the most sought-after defenders in European football.
