Luka Jovic injury doubt for La Liga start

Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is an injury concern for the start of the La Liga season.

The Serbian international was withdrawn after 28 minutes during Real Madrid's pre-season defeat to rivals Atletico Madrid, after colliding with Jan Oblak.

The club have not revealed the extent of his injury, however he looked in real pain as medical staff helped him off the pitch at the MetLife Arena in New Jersey.

Zinedine Zidane and his squad will return to Europe on July 28, with one more pre-season game to play, against Tottenham, in Germany on July 30.

The former French international spoke after the game about his concern on the number of injuries picked up by his players during their three games in the United States.

Midfielder Brahim Diaz suffered a minor injury in their loss to Bayern Munich, although he is expected to be fit for Real Madrid's first game, away at Celta Vigo on August 18.

New signing Ferland Mendy will definitely miss the season start after he sustained a thigh injury against Arsenal, with Spanish international Marco Asensio ruled out until 2020 after damaging knee ligaments.
