David Alaba is ‘fully focused’ on Bayern Munich despite recent transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to Barcelona.
A report in El Mundo Deportivo on Monday claimed the Catalan giants view the Austrian international as a ‘four in one player’, referencing his tactical flexibility.
The German champions have already signed Lucas Hernandez in an €80m deal from Atletico Madrid this summer – who will provide direct competition at left-back for Alaba.
The Austrian is the latest player to be linked to the Camp Nou to provide back-up for Jordi Alba, the long-term number one left-back at the club, following on from Filipe Luis – out of contract at Atletico Madrid – and Junior Firpo of Real Betis.
“I have the focus fully here in Munich and on the preparation. I think we have a lot to do in the new season,” Alaba is cited as saying by Bild.
Alaba is out of contract at the Bavarian club in the summer of 2021 and any move could signal a transfer away for teenage full-back Juan Miranda.
Bayern have already let a number of established stars depart this summer including Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Mats Hummels, while Alaba, 27, could be the latest.
Alaba signed for Bayern in 2009 and has become an established starter for the team in recent years, with his versatility one of his greatest assets.
