Mario Hermoso move increases Real Madrid revenue

Real Madrid have now raised over €137.5m in players sales this summer following Mario Hermoso’s move to Atletico Madrid.

As outlined by Marca, the central defender’s €25m move from Espanyol to Los Rojiblancos netted Madrid a cool €12.5m as they still held 50% of any future fee of their former youth graduate.

The club’s highest sale this summer was the €45m permanent move of Croatian move Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea, whom he had previously been on a season-long loan with.

Hermoso was not the only Madrid youth product to join cross-city rivals Atleti this summer, following the €40m direct move for Marcos Llorente to the Wanda Metropolitano.

There were two other sales processed at €20m – Raul de Tomas (who made just one senior appearance for Madrid) and Theo Hernandez, who joined Benfica and Milan respectively.

It is claimed by the report that the club’s aim for the summer is to raise a grand total of €300m in player sales this summer with the hope of funding a move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
