Atletico Madrid considering move for James Rodriguez

Atletico Madrid are considering a shock move for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports in Marca.

Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli, and another reunion with Carlo Ancelotti, however they are unwilling to match Real Madrid's €46m asking price.

That was the fee Real Madrid placed on the Colombian international, at the end of his two-year loan spell with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, with the German side declining to take up their purchase option on him.

That has seen Rodriguez's future placed into doubt, with Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane confirming he is not including the 28-year old in his first team plans for 2019-20.

Despite having only having a year left to run on his contract with Los Blancos, the club are hopeful of continuing their policy of selling squad players for a competitive price, in order to fund more incoming transfers,

Atletico have no emerged as favourites to seal a deal, with the player reportedly stating that he wants to remain in Madrid, and they currently have around €100m to spend following the exits of Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Lucas Hernandez.
