Real Betis ask Real Madrid for Dani Ceballos return

Real Betis are hopeful of landing former player Dani Ceballos on a loan deal from Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

El Mundo Deportivo outline how Los Verdiblancos have already contacted both the player and the club with a proposal, which could prove complicated but in which they hold out hope for.

It admits that Betis are aware that there are other clubs who are interested in the player ‘with greater sporting and economic offers’ but they are hopeful their ties to the player will make a temporary return palatable.

It is claimed that Madrid will only be willing to sanction a season-long loan exit for the midfielder and this increases the likelihood that the Seville-based club could be successful in an approach.

Tottenham, Milan and city rivals Sevilla have all been linked to the player, who has repeatedly insists he wants regular football next season.

Ceballos joined Madrid from Betis for €16m in 2017 but has started just 17 times in La Liga and just twice in the Champions League and has often appeared to be a fringe figure.

The Spain international started and scored in March’s 3-2 victory over Huesca – his first home goal for the club – but was selected just once more in the 10 matches since.

Madrid have spent over €300m on five new signings this summer but so far have only sold Marcos Llorente and have a hugely bloated 36-man first-team squad.
