Atletico Madrid are the new leaders in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
According to reports in Fernandes' native country Portugal, from national newspaper A Bola, Diego Simeone's side are readying a €50m bid for the 24-year old in the coming weeks.
Fernandes has been linked with a host of names from across Europe, as he looks certain to move on from the Primeira Liga side ahead of the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
Premier League pair Manchester United and Tottenham have both been linked with a bid for the former Sampdoria play maker, alongside Serie A side Inter Milan – however, all three are waiting on moving on a midfielder.
However, Atletico are able to use the money generated from the sale of full back Lucas Hernandez, and the anticipated departure of Antoine Griezmann, to remodel their midfield this summer.
Atletico are considering their options in the centre of the park, with another reported bid set to be submitted for Real Madrid's Marcos Llorente.
