Didier Deschamps: Ferland Mendy on the verge of Real Madrid move

France national team boss Didier Deschamps has confirmed that he expects defender Ferland Mendy to join Real Madrid.

The former Juventus man praised Mendy for his development at club level, as well as breaking into the Les Bleus squad in the 2018-19 season.

"Two years ago he was playing in the French second division.

"Now he is on the verge of joining Real Madrid.

"He has come on so much in terms of his development, and he can play both left and right back."

Mendy has been widely linked with a move to Real Madrid, as part of Zinedine Zidane's big-money transfer overhaul of his first team this summer and he is expected to arrive in a €35m move from Ligue 1 side Lyon.

However no deal is expected to be confirmed until at least the weekend, with Mendy away on international duty with France until June 13.

His arrival will further speculation about the futures of Marcelo and Sergio Reguilon, with the former likely to stay, in the short term, but Reguilon could be loaned out by Zidane.
