Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez set for England move

Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez is likely to join an English Premier League club this summer, according to reports.

Estadio Deportivo cite a report in The Guardian which claims West Ham, Tottenham and Liverpool are all in the running for the Uruguayan striker.

Gomez is said to have a €50m release clause at Estadio Balaidos but should his side – who currently are 17th in La Liga – be relegated, this clause is set to halve to just €25m, making him imminently more affordable.

However, Celta are highly unlikely to go down – they would need to lose at home to already-relegated Rayo Vallecano on the final day of the season coupled with a Girona win and a six-goal swing.

The Uruguayan striker netted 17 goals in La Liga last season in his first campaign in European football, leading to a series of top European clubs monitoring his progress.

Gomez has netted just five in his last 21 appearances while the Galician club have struggled in the absence of his strike partner Iago Aspas, who has missed large chunks of the campaign with injuries.

Gomez has hit 30 La Liga goals in 67 starts since joining from Defensor Sporting in 2017.
