Inter striker Mauro Icardi ‘wants Real Madrid move’

Inter striker Mauro Icardi wants to leave the club this summer and join Real Madrid, according to a report in Diario AS.

The 25-year-old is one of Europe’s elite goal scorers and has 16 goals for the campaign despite falling out of favour with the club’s hierarchy amid uncertainty surrounding his future.

The Nerazzurri have taken a tough stance on the Argentine’s unwillingness to sign a new deal – removing him from the first team squad earlier this season – which could reduce his transfer value.

The report claims Icardi would prefer a move to Los Blancos ahead of Juventus or Napoli, but the outgoing European champions may seek more affordable alternatives.

Manchester United have also been linked to a deal for the the Argentine hitman who has a reported €110m release clause in his contract in Milan.

Diario AS had previously reported on interest from Atletico Madrid, which was said to be fuelled by the possibility that Diego Costa and/or Antoine Griezmann could leave this summer.

Icardi previously was in the youth ranks of Barcelona when he moved to Italy, where he played for Sampdoria between 2011 and 2013, before joining Inter.
