AS: Marcelo set for Real Madrid stay

Real Madrid defender Marcelo is set to stay at the club this summer, according to reports in Diario AS this morning.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A side Juventus at the end of the season, however the return of Zinedine Zidane to the Santiago Bernabeu looks to have changed the situation.

With relations strained under previous boss Santiago Solari, who preferred Sergio Reguilon over the experienced Marcelo, the writing had looked to be on the wall for the left back – particularly after Cristiano Ronaldo openly encouraged him to join him in Turin.

But one of Zidane's first moves upon his return was to restore Marcelo to the starting line up for the win over Celta Vigo, and he is determined to restore the 30 year-old's confidence.

However according to sources close to the player, he has been given reassurances about his future role in the side and he will now see out his contract with Los Blancos until 2022.
