Real Madrid eye Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly

Real Madrid will move to sign Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly should Raphael Varane leave this summer, reports Diario AS.

The Senegal international has come to be recognised as one of the best defenders in the world and has been linked with a move away from the Partenopei.

The report claims the defender is the number one target for Los Blancos should the highly-rated Varane decide to depart this summer.

“When I was his agent, Real Madrid never showed up for him, unlike Barcelona,” the player’s former agent Bruno Satin told Radio Kiss earlier this month, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“He is a player who can aspire to go to any club, but he's very happy at Napoli.”

Reports have suggested the Italian club would only be willing to sell the 27-year-old defender for upwards of €100m, which may have scuppered any move in previous transfer windows.

Meanwhile, the Corriere dello Sport claims on Friday's edition that there is a release clause valid only for overseas clubs worth €150m.
