Barcelona closer to Bayern Munich defender David Alaba

Barcelona’s hopes of signing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba have increased following Lucas Hernandez’s move to the Bavarians, say Mundo Deportivo.

The Austrian international is predominantly a left-back and the Catalan giants are keen to add competition for long-term full-back Jordi Alba.

Alaba’s future at the Bavarian club is also under scrutiny with the report suggesting that Atletico Madrid defender Hernandez’s agreement to join Bayern pushing him closer to an exit.

The 26-year-old – whose current deal runs through until 2021 – has made 335 first-team appearances for the German champions since making his debut in 2009 and has scored 28 goals in that timeframe.

A host of full-backs have been linked with a summer switch to the Camp Nou including Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal and Filipe Luis of Atletico, who are both out of contract this summer.

A report in France Football earlier this week also linked the Austrian with a move to the Blaugrana.
