UEFA open investigation into Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo faces a possible Champions League ban after UEFA opened an investigation into an ‘explicit gesture’ against Atletico Madrid.

UEFA announced on Monday that Ronaldo was facing charges of ‘improper conduct’ after he mimicked Diego Simeone’s gesticulation at the end of Juve’s 3-0 victory over Atleti last week.

The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body of European football’s governing organisation will rule on the case at its next meeting on Thursday, with the Portuguese forward at risk of a quarter-final ban.

Simeone was fined €20,000 for the gesture but was not given a touchline ban for the match in Turin, so the former Real Madrid man should be fine for the Bianconeri’s quarter-final against Ajax.

However, it was reported earlier in the season that the Portuguese had been feeling ‘persecuted’ by UEFA following his summer switch to the Old Lady.
