Zinedine Zidane return bad news for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos?

The return of Coach Zinedine Zidane could have unhappy ramifications for midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to a report in Marca.

The midfielder joined Madrid from Real Betis for €16m but started just four times in La Liga and not at all in the Champions League under the Frenchman.

The 22-year-old has been more heavily involved for Madrid this season, making 30 appearances but also not a regular in the starting line-up, behind Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Fede Valverde and Marcos Llorente are two other emerging talents in the positions for Madrid, while it is likely Isco will now be afforded greater prominence.

“Because of the situation I felt both frustration and resentment towards Zidane,” Ceballos told Marca back in September.

“This stemmed from the times when either or both of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric were unavailable but instead of promoting me, the system changed so I was excluded.

“When those moments happen you get hurt and it eats away at you, even when the games were long after the title was out of reach for us.”
