POST MATCH: Girona shock Real Madrid as Sergio Ramos sees red

Girona pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the 2018-19 La Liga season as they won 2-1 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.

Second half goals from Cristhian Stuani and Cristian Portu secured a famous victory for the Catalan side, their first ever away at Real Madrid, who had captain Sergio Ramos sent off in the dying stages.

Brazilian international Casemiro looked to have put Santiago Solari's side on course for a straightforward home win with a first half header from Toni Kroos' cross.

However Girona rallied after the break, and Stuani netted his 14th La Liga goal of the season from the penalty spot, after Ramos was booked for handling a loose ball.

Portu put them in front with 15 minutes remaining, diving in to head home at the far post, after Thibaut Courtois saved substitute Anthony Lozano's shot.

As Real Madrid pushed for an equaliser, Ramos received his marching orders for a high foot on Pablo Alcala, incurring a two game suspension for the Spanish international – meaning he will miss the La Liga clash with league leaders Barcelona at the end of the month.
