Paris Saint-Germain offered midfielder Frenkie de Jong ‘a blank cheque’ in an attempt to dissuade him from joining Barcelona, say El Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutch international has agreed a deal to join the Catalan giants this summer for €85m from Ajax, following a long-running battle for his signature.
Last month, the Blaugrana confirmed the 21-year-old would arrive later this year but not before the Parisians had offered him a wage of whatever he desired, says the report.
Manchester City had also been strongly linked for the in-demand midfielder, who has won five caps for the Netherlands.
De Jong has only made 71 first-team appearances for Ajax but his level of performance has ensured he has caught the attention of Europe’s leading clubs.
