Santiago Solari: “Benzema is playing through the pain”

Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has praised striker Karim Benzema for playing through the pain barrier in recent games.

French international Benzema suffered a broken finger in the win over Real Betis on January 13th, and he has delayed surgery on the injury, with Real Madrid missing other players through injury.

He played in the La Liga win against Sevilla and the Copa del Rey victory over Girona, completing a full 90 minutes in both matches, and Solari commended him in his Saturday morning press conference.

"I am very pleased with Benzema. He is a very generous player, who is having a great season so far.

He is showing that generosity at the moment, as he is helping the team by playing with a broken finger and playing with the pain."

A decision is likely to be made on whether or not he will undergo surgery later this week, with key returns to the squad likely to allow Benzema the time to recuperate.
