Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari has challenged Marcelo to fight for his place in the starting line-up amid rumours the Brazilian is unhappy.
The experienced full-back has been linked with a move away from Los Blancos with rumours of interest from Juventus, while he has often been selected behind young defender Sergio Reguilon by Solari.
“The most difficult aspect of my job is choosing the team,” Solari told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“Each game we need to choose who are the best players available for us and this is something that invokes headlines and news depending on who is or is not in.
“In terms of Marcelo, his love and commitment to this club is not in doubt, he is an exemplary trainer and brings a lot to the dressing room.
“Anything we may have said together stays private and that is the same for me and all the players.
“It is good for the squad to have competition in every position and this is a core part of football, players must remain hungry to play games and that competitiveness helps us.
"Marcelo's love for and commitment to this club, and his happy demeanour and good behaviour.”
