Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong ‘chooses Barcelona over PSG’

Barcelona have beaten Paris Saint-Germain to the signing of in-demand Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong, according to multiple reports.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has reported Barca are willing to pay €90m to land the Dutch international with a number of Spanish and Catalan media outlets confirming the news.

The player’s agent, Ali Dursun, has reportedly sent a message to both PSG and Manchester City stating: “Thanks for your interest, but Frenkie goes to Barca.”

El Mundo Deportivo, RAC1 and Gianluca Di Marzio are among the outlets to verify this information and report that such a move has outflanked PSG’s offer of €75m.

Last week, El Mundo Deportivo claimed a high-ranking delegation of Barca representatives including club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and sporting director Eric Abidal met with the player on Thursday.

Manchester City have also been strongly linked for the in-demand midfielder, who has won five caps for the Netherlands, but it appears the Blaugrana is his destination.

De Jong has only made 68 first-team appearances for Ajax but his level of performance has ensured he has caught the attention of Europe’s leading clubs.
