Raul de Tomas ‘cannot return to Real Madrid this season’, staying at Rayo Vallecano

It has been confirmed by both Marca and Onda Cero that Real Madrid do not possess an option to cut short striker Raul de Tomas’ loan spell at Rayo Vallecano.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for struggling Rayo this season, hitting eight La Liga goals in 15 starts – more than any of Madrid’s first-team squad.

A youth product of Los Blancos, De Tomas is on his second season-long loan spell at the Vallecas-based club having netted 24 goals in their successful campaign last year.

There had been suggestions that Madrid may look to recall the striker following an injury crisis at the club, leaving 18-year-old Vinicius Junior as the most notable forward to end Sunday’s 2-1 win at Real Betis.

However, it has now been widely reported that De Tomas, who netted a hat-trick against Celta Vigo on Friday night, will not be returning to the European champions until the summer.
