Real Madrid confirm injury to Thibaut Courtois

Real Madrid’s injury problems have worsened with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ruled out of action with a thigh injury.

The Belgian international has established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper since his €40m move from Chelsea this summer, making 21 starts across all competitions.

No timeframe has been given on the 26-year-old’s return to action with the club’s deputy shot-stopper Keylor Navas now set to step back into the breach.

“Following tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a Grade I injury in the left iliac muscle,” read a Real Madrid club statement.

“His recovery will be monitored.”

Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente, Mariano Diaz and Toni Kroos are all currently ruled out through injuries ahead of the weekend trip to Real Betis.
