Frenkie De Jong ‘staying at Ajax’ but reports of ‘agreement with Barcelona’

Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong has confirmed he will not be moving this January while El Mundo Deportivo say he will join Barcelona this summer.

Barca have been strongly linked to the midfielder and the Catalan media outlet claims he has given his approval on a move, while the Dutch giants have priced him at €75m.

“I am certainly not leaving this winter,” De Jong told Ajax club media.

“I am 100 percent staying until the summer. I don't know what other people are doing, but personally I would like it if the whole group stay together.

“We have had a fairly decent first half to the season.

“The atmosphere in the group is very good and we have a lot of quality so I would be disappointed if people left.”

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have also been strongly linked for the in-demand midfielder, who has won five caps for the Netherlands.

De Jong has made 65 first-team appearances for Ajax but his level of performance has ensured he has caught the attention of Europe’s leading clubs.
