Tottenham ‘prepared to run down Christian Eriksen contract’

Tottenham are prepared to run down the contract of playmaker Christian Eriksen ahead of selling him to Real Madrid, claim reports in England.

The Denmark international is into the final 18 months of his contract at the North London club and talks regarding an extension to the deal are said to have stalled.

The Daily Mail say the 26-year-old wants to double his current wages of £70k per week and Spurs are unwilling to offer him such a lucrative increase.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with a move to the former Ajax star, whose future in England now appears to be precarious.

“I'm not a person that suffers too much in this sort of situation,” Pochettino told a press conference last week.

“Football is dynamic; it's about interests the manager sometimes can't manage. Of course, Christian Eriksen is so important for us. As a manager you would like to have this type of player with you, but in the end it's a negotiation.

“It would be fantastic if Christian commits with the club for a long time. If not, it's his right to do what he wants to do.

“He is happy here, he is showing his commitment. Then, what is going to happen between him and the club is not only in our hands.”
