Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz suffers fresh injury setback

Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz is out of the club’s visit to Villarreal on Thursday following an injury setback, it has been confirmed.

The Dominican-born frontman has ‘irritation of the sciatic nerve’, a statement from the club’s website has reported.

The 25-year-old has started just one La Liga game for Los Blancos since his return to the Spanish capital this summer from Olympique Lyonnais, in a reported €25m deal.

Indeed, Mariano has featured in a combined 267 minutes of football across the league and Champions League this term, with Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale favoured in the attacking positions.

It is unclear how long the attacker will be unavailable for action, but he will definitely sit out Madrid’s visit to the Yellow Submarine in Thursday’s rearranged league fixture.
