Valencia bow out with Manchester United victory

Marcelino felt ‘it was time for Peter Lim to see us win a game live’ after Valencia beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Phil Jones’ own goal and a Carlos Soler strike ensured Valencia went into the Europa League on a high, while denying United the chance of topping Group H.

“What counts here is winning and unfortunately we’ve picked up only a few points,” the Coach said after the game.

“I’m happy for the players because we competed well in several games and things didn’t come off. We played with freshness and intent.

“It’s the second time we’ve taken a 2-0 lead in four months. We’re happy and satisfied.

“It was time for [owner] Peter Lim to see us win a game live because it wasn’t possible before.

“There are some tremendous teams in the Europa League. The competition isn’t what it was five or six years ago.

“Many big teams are in it, with impressive track records in Europe. I’ve always really enjoyed the Europa League.”
