Barcelona confirm Rafinha facing for six months

Barcelona have confirmed midfielder Rafinha Alcantara will miss the remainder of the season after damaging ankle ligaments.

Rafinha appeared as a second-half substitute during Barca’s recent 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid and despite completing the game, it was confirmed he would need surgery after ‘rupturing the ACL in his left knee’.

The Brazilian has previously suffered similar setbacks with two knee injuries – causing him to miss six months in the 2015/16 season and eight months following an April 2017 setback.

The 25-year-old only returned to Camp Nou over the summer after he spent the second half of last season at Inter.

Rafinha’s deal at the Camp Nou runs through until June 2020 and he is now not expected to return until pre-season.
