Reported tension between Marcelino and Goncalo Guedes at Valencia

There is tension in Valencia between Coach Marcelino and star player Goncalo Guedes, according to reports in the Spanish press.

TV station Movistar picked up on a heated discussion between the two during Saturday night’s match at Real Madrid, which Los Che lost 2-0.

The result leaves Valencia, who finished fourth last season, merged in the bottom half of the standings and tensions are reported to be running high between supposed underperforming individuals.

The cameras picked up on the Coach calling over the Portuguese forward in the first half, before stating “there have been 27 minutes, and you have not yet done anything,” to which the Portuguese international reacted unfavourably.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward, who moved to the Mestalla permanently this summer, was said to be restricted by a pubis injury.

“If Guedes played at the beginning it is because he told us he was fit to play,” Marcelino told reporters after the game, as cited by El Mundo.

Valencia have won just three of their 14 La Liga games to date and lie 14th in the standings.
