Marcelino: ‘Valencia need to win at Juventus’

Valencia Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral believes his side must win away to Juventus if they want to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Los Che sit four points behind Juve and two from Manchester United in the standings in their group, while they travel to Turin on Tuesday night.

“It’s a game in an important competition against one of the candidates to win it,” Marcelino told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“We intend to win, because our future in the Champions League depends on it. It will be a long, difficult match, but the team is in good shape.

“It’s not easy for our opponents to deal with us, we play with intensity and we hope that can deliver us the win.

“We have to aim to win, any distraction from looking at another result won’t lead to anything good.

“Cristiano Ronaldo? He’s an extraordinary player, but I don’t think his sending off in Valencia will have much relevance because the opponent doesn’t decide who is sent off.

“If that were the case I’d always play 11 against zero.

“He, as he’s shown throughout his career, always plays to the maximum, he wants to win, he wants to score and aside from his great talent he has this boundless ambition to be the best of all time.

“So I don’t think we’ll face a different Cristiano to the one we were used to in Spain, and we know very well what his characteristics are.”
