Diego Simeone has confirmed Atletico Madrid are working to renew goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s contract alongside his own renewal.
The Slovenian shot-stopper has a contract at Atleti until 2021 but his €100m release clause is seen as attainable by top European clubs, hence a need to bolster this fee.
“I know the club are working to renew with Oblak,” Simeone told reporters over the weekend.
“We have talked with him this week and he has been very clear about his future, what he wants and what he needs.
“He is a very important piece in the present and the future of this club, we have no doubts over what we want for him either.”
Simeone also spoke of his own future at the club: “We have spoken about the subject, yes but nothing any further than that and reports that it is further are lies.
“I have more energy now than when I arrived at the club.”
