New York City look to Sergio Leon of Real Betis

New York City have targeted Real Betis striker Sergio Leon as a replacement for David Villa in their forward line, say Diario AS.

The 29-year-old has started just one La Liga matches this season and has only been involved in four of the club’s 12 La Liga games to date this season.

The striker returned to his boyhood club last summer in a €3.5m deal from Osasuna and netted 13 goals for the Seville-based club, who ended up finishing sixth in La Liga that campaign.

MLS club New York City are set to replace 36-year-old Villa this summer with the report claiming Leon is the prime target, although Toronto FC are also said to be interested in his signature.
