Former Atletico Madrid captain Gabi Fernandez has highlighted Jan Oblak as ‘decisive’ for the club and called on the two to renew his deal.
The central midfielder, now at Al Sadd, stated that the Slovenian goalkeeper – whose deal runs through until 2021 but contains a €100m release clause – must improve.
“Oblak wins many points for Atletico Madrid,” Gabi told Cadena Cope.
“It is a very important position to have a world class player and Atleti have that, so it is crucial that they try to convince him to stay and renew.
“I am convinced that he wants to renew at the club and also that Atleti want him to renew, so there is sure to be an agreement.
“He is as decisive as any outfield player.”
